5 Days Uganda Gorilla, Chimps and Wildlife Safari itinerary

This 5-day gorilla trek safari takes you to the misty Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is home to more than half the population of the remaining 720 mountain gorillas. Bwindi Forest offers a unique birding opportunity, cultural experiences, and the scenic allure of stunning hills. You will have the experience of a lifetime watching at close range these majestic apes as they feed and relax. Before crossing to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a great game viewing experience.

Breakfast for day one will be provided at the hotel or your place of residence, followed by a meet, and greet and briefing on the 3 days of the Queen Elizabeth Tour by our driver. There will be a number of stopovers including at the Uganda Equator along Masaka road. Here you will be able to stand in both the northern and southern hemispheres and also experiment with how water swirls in different directions when placed in the northern and southern hemispheres. Take photos and even buy some of the beautiful souvenirs. Head straight to the lodge.

Start the day with early game drives that expose us to diverse animals including the Big Five—elephants, buffaloes, big cats- lions, leopards, and rhinos. More times in the evening, warthogs, and hunchback carnivals like hyenas are spotted along the circuits as we drive along, and many more species that are residents to this park. There is a rich birdlife especially our version of storks in the wetland spots as we reach the flamingoes in the salt lakes at Kasenyi.

Enjoy a boat cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel, a 36km channel linking Lake George and Lake Edward. Here you’ll see land and water-adapted hippos yawning, the National Geographical Society killing machine, the Nile crocodile, gaping along the banks, and the savannah version of pigs, the warthog-Pumba are a hallmark sign in this animal home. With your binoculars along the peninsula, you’ll have a magnificent view of birds and animals like the ever-playing African elephants in the water.

Wake up for an early breakfast, then head to Kyambura Gorge or Kalinzu Forest for a Chimpanzee trek for up to 4 hours with a tracker and guide. provides an accessible and cost-effective primate tracking experience in southwestern Uganda, offering a chance to see habituated chimpanzees and other wildlife like blue monkeys and colobus monkeys. The reserve is home to a community of over 30 chimpanzees. After that, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. For dinner and overnight at your stay.

After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for briefing by park ranger guides, depart with picnic lunch boxes to start gorilla trekking. The activity can last up to 4 hours or more to find the mountain gorillas as you hike up and down the slopes with dense mist-covered vegetation. Hence you will have a packed lunch for this activity. This active quest will eventually bring you to the face of one of the most sought-after creatures-the mountain gorillas. Upon reaching them, you will have a full hour with them while observing and learning their behavior as you take photos.

After breakfast, transfer back to the airport either Entebbe or Kigali. It is more than 8 hours’ drive to Entebbe from Bwindi; whereas it is a 4 to 5 hours’ drive to Kigali International Airport.
